SUPERMARKETS could do more now to tackle the sale of cheap alcohol according to Warrington North's MP.
Helen Jones, pictured, said Tesco's call on the Government to stop supermarkets from selling at a cheap rate was disingenuous'.
She added: "There is much they can be doing about it.
"They may have a point that they can't all agree on lower prices, but they can start the process.
"They are selling alcohol such as cider and cheap lager at below cost price and they could stop doing that.
"These are not aimed at social drinkers.
"And they could stop putting it right by the door and do more about requiring proof of age.
"It is up to them. They are being disingenious and they have got to be more socially responsible."
She said while she was not against Government joining in the debate and making changes to the law, Tesco could act now if it wanted to.
