But after a separation that led to 60 years apart, the couple, both now widowed, were reunited in 2020 and re-kindled their romance with them set to be married on Friday, September 2.

Recalling the moment the pair first met again after a lifetime apart Charlie said: "I saw her at the train station and immediately recognised her. It felt great, we were wrapped around each other again after 60 years".

Margaret, who was 17 at the time and Charlie who was 19, first met in their hometown of Glasgow after locking eyes on the bus and spent six happy years together.

The couple separated when Charlie joined the Navy in 1966 and both him and Margaret went on to lead separate lives, with both having full and happy marriages to other people and families of their own.

Margaret, 79 who was married to her late husband John Dodd for 42 years, had three children and went on to work for an engineering company in Paisley.

While Charlie, 81, who was married to his late wife Anne Miller for 47 years, had four children and travelled working as an engineer on super tankers for the Navy before leaving the services in 1973 and moving to Warrington.

Sixty years on, after a mutual friend passed on Margaret's contact number, the pair met in Paisley in April 2020 and soon after Margaret relocated to Orford in Warrington where they both now reside.

The couple, who have begun to merge their huge families together described how they were grateful for the undoubtedly happy lives they lived apart and for the opportunity to live the rest of their days together.

Charlie, who has lived in Warrington for more than 50 years detailed how his own family, many of whom live locally have welcomed his wife to be with open arms.

He said: "My family have accepted Margaret as their own and the same with her own family too."

Carrying on the international theme of the wedding, Charlie's daughter who lives in California will also be flying over to see the charming couple say their vows, along with other family members from Canada too.

The retired couple will marry at Warrington Register Office before enjoying spending quality time with their combined family from overseas.
