HARD work paid off for Birchwood pupils who received their A-level results this morning, Thursday.
There were plenty of happy faces as the teens picked up their results from Birchwood College.
And it was a particularly successful year for the Brock Road college as 100 per cent of students achieved the grades to secure their first choice university.
But university isn’t the only next step for the talented group of students.
Some will begin new jobs, gap years or apprenticeships.
In particular Grace Vardon, who achieved a distinction star, a B and a merit, will be starting a degree apprenticeship for Cheshire Constabulary next month.
She told the Warrington Guardian how she is ‘excited but nervous’ to begin her new career.
Adding to the college’s success, 87 per cent of students achieve grades distinction star to merit while 75 per cent achieved at least one distinction grade.
Richard Ellwood, who is head of the college, said: “We are extremely proud of our sixth form achievements for the Class of 2022.
“This year group should be commended on their resilience and commitment in year 11, experiencing a shift to online teaching to hybrid teaching in year 12 and more recently back to a more digitally informed and classroom approach to learning which we will continue to embrace positively.
“Our students and staff have worked tirelessly to ensure students can be the best they can be, especially during these very testing times and we are proud to share the following achievements.”
One particularly happy Birchwood student was Sophie Radford who achieved four distinction stars.
Sophie will be heading to Liverpool Hope University to discover law and sport.
She said: “I am feeling good but shocked!
“I am happy I worked the way I did to achieve these results – it was stressful at the time.”
Mr Ellwood added: “It is so important that we celebrate all our year 13 student successes.
“Many have exceeded their personal expectations and are able to secure places in universities, on apprenticeship schemes or in employment that will provide the next stage of their exciting personal journey.
“Other decisions are based around the choice to undertake a gap year which can provide valuable experiences and enhanced skills to complement a career in the future.
“As a year group, they have had to work hard and be adaptable, open, and honest knowing when to access both well-being and academic support which will bode them well in their future learning.
“We wish our Class of 2022 every success in their selected pathways and careers thereafter and thank all our dedicated staff that go that extra mile to support our students.”
