NEWTON MP Dave Watts has spoken out against plans for a recycling plant at Lyme Wood Pit.
Meeting with a senior manager of Cory Environmental Ltd's management - the company behind the application - following the council's rejection of the application for a recycling site, Dave Watts discussed how the company could improve the management of the existing site.
Making clear that he would strongly oppose any appeal against the council's decision that was made in December, he urged the company to look for more suitable sites away from residents' homes.
Despite highlighting the fact that his constituents needed to do more to recycle their waste in the future, he stressed that facilities to do so should be away from such properties.
To prevent similar applications being made in the future the Newton MP requested that the authorities come forward with some broad guidelines for waste recycling plants.
Finding the meeting with the company's management useful, he hoped it would lead to the company dropping its plans to build the recycling plant on the site near Newton.
Cory Environmental Ltd promised its decision would be made soon and that they would inform the labour MP as quickly as possible.
