THE Chapel House in Burtonwood has bounced back to form with a four out of five hygiene rating.
Last summer the pub received zero out of five - the worst possible mark on Warrington Borough Council's Scores on the Doors website, which publishes borough council hygiene inspection reports.
The notes from the June 12 inspection said inspectors had little confidence in the pub's management, and that it had bad hygiene and safety levels.
But now the inn, on Chapel Lane, has been awarded four stars - a very good' rating, which means it has a high standard of compliance with statutory obligations and industry codes of recommended practice'.
The new report, from an inspection on January 17, has been welcomed by landlady Christine Harrison.
She attributed the poor original score to building work that was being carried out at the time in its kitchen.
She said: "We had a refurbishment and the snagging wasn't finished.
"Some of the walls needed redoing, so my husband did the work himself and it's all done now.
"Our food is home-cooked and our Sunday lunches are doing well too, so we're delighted."
The licensee has been at the pub for nearly five years.
On February 29, she is running a fundraising race night for Wish House, the north west children's charity.
The evening starts at 9pm and all are welcome.
