A WOMAN had to have 30 pieces of glass removed from her face following a bus crash in Burtonwood.

Amanda Thompson, aged 26, was sitting in a seat facing the aisle of the number 329 Arriva bus when it collided with another 329 service on Phipps Lane.

She has disputed comments by Clr John Higham in last week's Warrington Guardian. She says the buses crashed around 7.15am on Monday, February 4 and that parents parking outside Burtonwood Primary School near Phipps Lane's junctions with Green Land and Back Lane could not have been a factor in the accident.

She spent five hours receiving treatment in Whiston Hospital and is angry with Arriva for how it has handled the incident.

The bus company has offered her compensation, but she believes it does not know the extent of the different victims' injuries and is seeking legal advice. She said: "Arriva has offered me £500 and to me that is a laugh in my face.

"They said a driver and three other passengers were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure' but I wouldn't call having 30 pieces of glass removed from my face a precautionary measure'.

"There were two lads in the ambulance with me, one who had back injuries and one who had swallowed glass.

"One of the bus drivers had broken his hand and another person had hurt a hand as well, so there were five of us."

Amanda, an assistant manager at Greggs bakers, from Burtonwood, says since the crash she has suffered from panic attacks and is unable to use public transport to get to work.

A spokesman for Arriva said: "The driver and a number of passengers received hospital treatment.

"The cause of the accident is being investigated."
