A COUPLE who met as teenagers more than 52 years ago will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on Friday.

Meeting at a Wavertree Labour Club dance, Liverpudlians David and Ann Dempsey fell in love instantly.

David, said: "When I first saw her I thought she was like a little doll, she was only 4ft 8ins tall - the quarter is very important, and she only weighed six stones."

Spending every day together, the teenage sweethearts decided to get married when Ann was 19 and David was 21.

The pair moved to Penketh before settling in Ventnor Close, Lingley Green, almost 13 years ago.

To mark the milestone, Mr and Mrs Dempsey are holding a celebratory event at The Everglades Park Hotel, Widnes, tomorrow, Friday, their anniversary.

Taking pride in their close family, the couple have one son, two daughters and four grandchildren - all of whom live within the Warrington area.

David added: "I think that having one person do all the talking and the other to do all the listening, makes a successful marriage "I am the listener. Sometimes I will be shopping with Ann and I'll be looking in a shop and when I turn around she will be talking to someone she has never met in her life - she's a big talker."
