POLICE have confirmed a body has been found in the Manchester Ship Canal in Stockton Heath.
Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man.
Police received reports at around 10.15am this morning, Friday, of a person falling into the canal.
A search took place to locate the person and a huge emergency service presence attended the scene – including police, fire and ambulances.
Officers were also supported by a police helicopter, the underwater search team and the fire service boat.
The swing bridge on Northwich Road has been closed in both directions since this morning while emergency services dealt with the incident – and it remains closed now.
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1328865.
