A CLEAN-up has commenced in Dallam after a traveller encampment including 16 caravans has moved on.
The group arrived at Dallam Playing Fields on Longshaw Street on Sunday evening.
This came on the same day that an illegal encampment of three caravans finally left the site after 10 days.
A heavy police presence attended the scene on Sunday after it was reported that the group had damaged the gate to gain access.
Yesterday, Monday, they were served papers ordering them to leave the site by 5pm – which they didn’t.
But this afternoon, Tuesday, the group of 16 caravans and their associated vehicles have left the site.
A number of council workers were spotted cleaning up the mess left behind by the encampment.
And two portaloos remain on the land.
