A crack down on teenage drinking is being obeyed by licensees in Newton.
After complaints from residents about underage drinking, Merseyside Police teamed up with Trading Standards and undertook a sting' operation on January 25.
A 15-year-old volunteer visited nine off-licenses across Newton and St Helens and tried buying alcohol. He was refused in all premises.
PC Kevin Ward, of Newton police, said: "The evening's test purchasing results were particularly pleasing as it shows that the off-licenses in the borough are acting in a responsible manner with regards to selling alcohol to minors. The initiative was aimed at responding to the concerns of local residents and trying to identify where young people are getting their alcohol from."
