THE wait is over for primary school pupils who have recently moved into newly-built £3 million premises.
Children at Lyme Community Primary School moved into their new building, which is next to the old school premises on Lyme Street, Newton, last week.
Plans for the new structure were first made more than two years ago.
The old building, which was built in 1917, and two mobile classrooms had become too small for the demands of the school.
Within the next 12 months, the former school building will be demolished and transformed into a play area for each age group.
A nature reserve and an orienteering site will also be developed.
The new two-storey school building has provided central resource areas and more space for the children.
Nursery and infant children are based on the ground floor, with the juniors being positioned on the upper floor of the 21st century construction.
Mrs Christine Winstanley, head teacher at the school, said: "We haven't had an official opening yet but we have much more space and better facilities in the new building. We also have a new cook - the food is now prepared on site, which is great. The local authorities have been very good to us."
Any parents wishing to view the school should contact Mrs Winstanley on 01744 678350.
