A FORMER Manchester United player entertained guests at an annual Masonic sports evening.
Wilf McGuinness who signed for the reds in 1953, played for United until a broken leg finished his career at the age of 22.
Giving an insight into his experience as a player and a coach he amused guests at the Masonic Hall on Winmarleigh Street with amusing tales from his career. Comedian Jed Stone also performed to the 145 men present at the dinner.
An additional boost to the charitable evening was the surprise donation of a signed St George's rugby shirt from the man who coached the team - Warrington rugby league legend Harry Bath.
The shirt was sent to dinner organiser Vic Charlesworth after Harry's wife, Gwen took an interest in his organising of the fundraising sportsman's dinner.
The shirt was auctioned along with other sporting items. The auction and an additional raffle raised £2,000, which will be divided between Warrington Parish Church and St Thomas's Church, Stockton Heath.
The evening was dedicated to the memory of Ken Foulkes who lived in London Road, Stockton Heath.
