A WARRINGTON asphalt plant has paid tribute to its design engineer who died shortly after seeing his last project completed.
Len Austin designed the Tarmac's asphalt plant in Warrington, which was opened in August 2006.
Sadly Len died shortly afterwards from a heart attack at the age of 46.
Now a memorial plaque has been erected at the company in Len's memory.
Derrick Holmes, Tarmac's Aggregate Products head of engineering for the North West, unveiled the plaque last week, watched by Len's mother, three children, grandson and colleagues from the plant.
Derrick said: "Len was involved in the project from the beginning and at every stage of construction.
"We decided to do something to remember him and thought a plaque at Warrington was appropriate.
"We also plan to create a memorial garden near the boundary fence where the plaque will be mounted on a large stone.
"The garden and stone will be visible from outside the site so that Len's family and friends can visit whenever they wish."
