ELEVEN major roads in Warrington have been flagged as carrying a high risk of fatal crashes.
Labelled Red Routes' by the Cheshire Road Safety Partnership, the roads form part of a new scheme that is being officially launched today, Thursday.
The Red Route scheme has seen new red road signs erected to warn motorists of the potential risks and the number of casualties seen along those stretches (listed below) in the past three years.
The highlighted roads form seven main routes in the town and were selected from analysing collision and casualty data from Warrington Borough Council, with priority given to routes where severe crashes resulted in serious injury or death.
Lee Murphy, partnership manager, said: "Road safety is something we all have a responsibility for.
"It is not the roads themselves that are a danger, but the people using them - road users can do a few simple things such as driving at an appropriate speed for the conditions to help reduce the number of incidents.
"Red Routes are signed to make people aware of the risks but tackling them is the responsibility of everyone."
Police have also been conducting speed checks in the past week along Warrington Road in Penketh successfully targeting motorists flouting speeding laws.
