RESIDENTS across the north west have been reporting hearing a loud bang.
It occurred shortly before 8pm yesterday evening, Wednesday, appearing to have come from the sky.
Many took to social media to ask other confused people as to the source of the bang.
The Warrington Guardian was contacted by Warrington residents living in Great Sankey and Callands regarding the sound.
But there is no need to worry, as it is believed that the noise came from three Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft in the Manchester area.
The jets performed a fly past over Old Trafford stadium to mark the opening game of the UEFA Women's Euro England 2022 football tournament.
England went on to win the game 1-0 in front of a record-breaking 68,871 crowd.
In a statement, the Royal Air Force said: “At 7.52pm this evening, three RAF Typhoon aircraft will conduct a flypast over Old Trafford stadium to mark the start of the UEFA Women's EURO.
“The RAF is proud to support the opening of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 tournament and will be cheering on the Lionesses tonight and Northern Ireland tomorrow night.
“Sport is an important element of service life in supporting mental and physical wellbeing; the RAF empowers its aviators to get involved in sports through its Elite Athletes Scheme.”
