A POLICE motorway patrol heading up the hard shoulder on the M6 was met by two motorists driving towards them - in the wrong direction.
The drivers had turned around to avoid miles of congestion.
Traffic was stopped in both directions on the motorway in Cheshire this afternoon following a police incident between junctions 22 and 21a.
All lanes have now reopened although traffic is still queuing for around four miles.
North West Motorway Police tweeted: “MC31 making their way up the hard shoulder to assist with lifting the earlier closure at junction 21a.
“Only to be met by two motorists driving towards them head on!
“Both drivers dealt with and turned back to face the right direction.”
