WARRINGTON Wolves have confirmed the immediate signing of young forward Matty Nicholson.
The Warrington Guardian exclusively revealed yesterday that The Wire were on the verge of signing the Wigan Warriors loose forward/back rower to add to Daryl Powell’s pack options.
The deal has now been formally announced, with Wigan agreeing to allow the 18-year-old to join The Wire immediately.

He has penned a three-and-a-half year deal with Warrington, who revealed they have beaten off interest from both Super League and the NRL to secure the signature of one of the game’s highest-rated young forwards.
England Knights squad member Nicholson scored two tries on his senior debut for Wigan against Huddersfield earlier this year and has also impressed on loan at Championship side Newcastle Thunder.

“I’m excited to be joining Warrington and it’s an opportunity I’m really excited about,” the former Siddal junior said.
“After speaking to Daryl [Powell] and Karl [Fitzpatrick] I’m excited to be a part of the plans that are in place here for the next few years.
“I feel like I can play my best rugby under Daryl and kick on with my development here at Warrington.”
Having won a National Cup title with junior club Siddal in the under 16s age group, Nicholson was picked for England under 16s’ Test matches against France and played a part in two victories.
The Wigan Warriors website describes Nicholson as “a hard-working and skilful player who likes to run with the ball but also likes to get passes away and offer creativity to his surrounding team.”
Powell added: “Matty is one of the best young forwards in the game and we are delighted he will be joining us as we look to create an exciting mix of experience and youth in our pack.
“He will join us as a driven young player alongside Thomas Mikaele and James Harrison as a strong pack foundation for the future.”
