LYMM Rugby Club is set to welcome an 'exciting' new tennis court development, after postponing plans due to the pandemic.

The rugby club's walled garden is going to be the home of four new tennis courts, which will be floodlit, and all-weather.

Construction on the new courts is set to start in August, with the rugby club optimistic that the courts will be ready for action by March 2023.

The facilities will be making tennis available from 8am until 10pm each day, with local schools being given priority access to encourage participation in school.

These developments are being welcomed by the project manager of the walled garden, Pete Radcliffe.

He said: "Available court time could increase from the current 4,500 hours on two courts with no floodlights, playable from end of March to November, to 20,000 hours, year-round, on four new courts."

The project's budget is currently set at £350,000, but the chairman of Lymm Rugby Club, David Simpson, says that additional fundraising may be needed.

Mr Simpson said: "The building of the tennis facilities is the essential next phase to release the value of the site and help fund further development of the infrastructure on the existing rugby club site.

"This takes us one step closer to our overall objective of becoming a multi-sports community hub."
