A DOG has been rescued from the M6 after it escaped from its owners at Lymm Poplar Services.
After giving police officers the run around, Benji was eventually captured and will be reunited with his worried owners.
North West Motorway Police had already warned they had received several reports overnight about a German Shephard-type on the hard shoulder of junction 2 of the M66.
However, officers were then made aware of another dog that had managed to get away from its owners while at the services by junction 20 on Saturday (June 11).
After giving officers the run around, the lost dog, named Ben/Benji was eventually captured.
North West Motorway Police tweeted: “Lost Dog Update M6 Lymm Services - Ben/Benji has finally been captured - he certainly gave us and National Highways the run around.
“I think officers have got their 'steps' in today.
“Thanks to everyone who assisted.”
