RESIDENTS in an area of Warrington have been warned to ensure their houses are secure following a spate of burglaries.
Homes in Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft have been targeted by thieves over recent weeks, Cheshire Police has warned.
Officers say opportunistic burglars have been taking advantage of the recent warm weather, with households forgetting to shut or lock windows and doors.
Residents are being reminded to lock all entry points when going to bed or when leaving the house, even if it is only for a second.
In an update, the force’s Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft Police team said: “Over the few weeks we have been able to enjoy the nice weather, unfortunately this has also caused an increase of burglaries in the area.
“Thieves are accessing properties via doors that have been left insecure and through insecure windows.
“Even when you are home, ensure doors are locked where possible, and that any electronics such as tablets and laptops are stored out of sight when not in use.
“When leaving your property, ensure all windows and doors are locked, and that all valuables are stored out of sight.
“If your property is alarmed, activate it. These steps should always be taken, even if you are ‘only going to be a minute’. If you see anything suspicious, report it.”
