AN author from Lower Walton has achieved a lifelong ambition following the publication of his book.

Tim Roberts, a former Priestley College and Woolston High School student, has released his book Break The Mould: How to be your best version of you which is focused on being your true authentic self despite the pressures to conform to norms.

“I’ve achieved a lifelong ambition,” said Tim.

“From school, I’ve wanted to write a book and many things distract you from that.

“When I’ve been working in leadership coaching it created that opportunity.

“I want to show my daughters and my wife that if you believe you can do it, go on do it. Believe in yourself, that’s a big thing that comes from it.”

Tim, a coach and inspirational speaker, continued: “It’s called Break The Mould to help people to recognise the moulds that we fit into and they come from your perceptions of the world around you and our thoughts and feelings and how we should behave or look.

“It’s all about leadership and helping leaders to recognise those moulds and to break that by being your true, authentic self knowing who you are and what you stand for.

“You don’t choose your natural thoughts and feelings because your head will think whatever it wants.

“You can choose how you respond to that.

“The book uses some colourful language because I want it to be straight-talking.

“The key message is about making those choices from who you truly are.”

The book is four years in the making and it’s not been plain sailing.

The 43-year-old added: “From a professional point of view, it’s definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done and it’s definitely the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

“I know that the blood, sweat and tears that I have put into it are worth it.

“I can’t wait to do volume two,” joked Tim, who grew up in Salford.

Tim’s inspiration comes from own experience of fitting into the mould.

“I was miserable and going home stressed and unhappy,” said Tim.

“The work I was nothing was leading to nothing more than misery and unhappiness.

“I then worked with people who helped me to break the mould and then I realised that I can choose how I respond to my feelings.

“Having had that experience, I want other people to be able to experience that.

“I want them to be able to read it and be able to think that I can change that for myself and tomorrow, I can choose how I respond as my true authentic self.

“I want to inspire as many people as possible to be their best version of themselves.

“If I can do it, anybody can do it."

And to celebrate its release, Tim gathered colleagues, friends and family to Institution bar in the town centre where he answered some questions from the audience.

“It feels really weird and like it’s happening to someone else,” joked Tim.

“It’s really special and I’ll remember this day for the rest of my life.

“The book isn’t for me, it’s for anybody who chooses to read it.

“To know that people want to read it, they are keen and want to support me, that’s really special.”
