DAMAGE was caused to the front of a convenience store in Appleton following an attempted robbery last night, Tuesday.
Two men tried to access the cash machine inside the Co-op shop on Dudlow Green Road at around 9.30pm.
The pair pulled up outside the store in a car and placed a heavy chain around the machine with a view to ripping it out, however they were unsuccessful.
They were wearing balaclavas and dressed in black tracksuits and trainers, and they fled in the vehicle which was found abandoned nearby.
Detectives are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch.
DC Ian Morris, of Warrington local policing unit, said: “We believe the men came prepared to rob the cash machine, however it failed and they quickly fled the area.
“We are carrying out numerous enquiries, and as part of the investigation we are asking anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage that could assist us to get in touch.
“I would also appeal to anyone who has information or may have seen what occurred here to contact police.”
Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone who has information, CCTV or dash cam footage is asked to contact Cheshire Police online or via 101, quoting IML 128598.
