WE tried Warrington’s first cryotherapy spa business.

Elements Cryo Spa, based on Knutsford Road, has opened as the first dedicated ‘cryo spa’ business across town.

It specialises in treatments for sports recovery, health, wellness and beauty needs.

When looking into hyperbaric chambers, John Lyons, the owner from Orford, came across cryotherapy chambers.

He has a chamber as well as a machine for spot therapy which reduces inflammation and swelling in targeted parts of the body.

“I just want to help people really,” said John.

“I’ve been doing removals all of my life so it’s a bit of a weird change to come to this.

“The more I looked into it, the more I thought it was really interesting. I’m learning a lot about conditions and how I can help people.

“I saw all of the health benefits then when I looked into it I thought I would never be able to set it up as it was way out of my budget.

“After looking into it further, one thing led to another and I managed to seal the deal on equipment and the space.

“It’s something to get my teeth into and I’m really enjoying it.

“Seeing people enjoying it, having an experience that I can provide is what I love.

“If someone walks out with a smile on their face because they are no longer in pain, then I’m happy and I’ve done my job.”

John, who has been up until midnights at times to get everything sorted for his opening, wants to spread the word about how his space can help people.

The 35-year-old continued: “There are so many people that can benefit from cryotherapy. It was originally designed to target inflammation surrounding arthritis.

“It can have a positive effect on people with anxiety and depression.

“It helps sports recovery by repairing tissue damage and speeding up the healing process.

“It constricts your blood vessels quite fast, your blood zones in on your vital organs, then your blood starts flushing out the toxins as its oxygenated.

“When people come in with pain or an injury, this won’t cure it but it will help people get through their day.

“Everyone walks out feeling better than when they came in.”

And I can vouch for that. I thought it was only fair to put it to the test by training beforehand to bring some sore muscles to the chamber – added to an achy back.

After three minutes in the chamber, my body came out feeling fresh and my legs felt lighter as such as all the toxins had been flushed out.

Obviously, it was cold. But it didn’t feel as cold as -120c should feel – in a good way.

John talks to you throughout to keep you occupied and the three minutes fly by.

It gave me a spring in my step for the rest of the day and also comes with a relaxing night’s sleep. What more could you want?

Elements Cryo Spa has been busy since opening this month.

John has already welcomed the likes of a Mr Universe competitor to the spa – which also houses his partners aesthetics and treatment room business upstairs.

He added: “The reception since opening has been a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

“We want it to have that nice, calm feeling. A lot of people are very nervous about coming in because they think that they are about to plummet to between -125c and -140c which is a bit daunting.

“At any point during the treatment, they can come out if they want to.”

John is very pleased to have taken on the challenge.

The dad-of-three said: “I’m at an age now where I think it’s now or never so let’s go for it.

“You have got places in Manchester and Liverpool but there is a huge area in between. I’ve grabbed the opportunity while I can.

“I’m really proud to be able to do it and to bring something new to the area and something so many people will benefit from.”
