IF you get up for work at 2.30am, most people want to forget about their day job when it comes to weekends and special occasions.
But one Birchwood couple are embracing their working history and honouring their loyalty to Newsquest and Guardian Series Newspapers on their upcoming wedding day.
John Crookes and his wife-to-be Jan Crippin have worked for the company for the more than 20 years with John being an area organiser each Thursday when the papers are printed and Jan delivering five paper rounds each week.
The soon-to-be happy couple will be tying the knot in Warrington at The Pyramid on Saturday, May 7 and their reception – complete with heart-shaped table confetti made from old copies of the Warrington Guardian - will take place in Haworth, Yorkshire, where they had their first date.
Having rearranged their wedding day twice due to Covid-19, John and Jan, who have already been on their honeymoon to Paris, are hoping it will be third time lucky and they can finally become husband and wife.
With around 100 guests expected to watch them say “I do” in the Pete Postlethwaite Room at Pyramid, the wedding party will then travel to the Yorkshire Moors for afternoon tea at The Bronte Tearooms, opposite Haworth’s parsonage made famous by the writing family.
John, who is 55 and works in the kitchen of a care home, said: “When we were planning our wedding, we knew we didn’t want the traditional hotel-type celebration and we wanted to make the day a bit different and more personal to us.
“We went to Haworth on our first date 13 years ago and we’ve returned several times since.
“We always treat ourselves to afternoon tea and decided to incorporate this into our wedding day.”
John is keeping himself busy ahead of the big day by cutting hearts out of old copies of the Warrington Guardian to spread on the tables for guests at the Bronte Tearooms and has even offered to cook Sunday lunch for his friends and family the day after the wedding.
