THE FAMILY of ‘brave’ young woman who died after a devastating battle with cancer have completed a challenge in memory of her.
Georgia Goodier’s family decided to fundraise in memory of their loving daughter and take on challenges which she planned to.
Last year Georgia, a former Penketh High School student, was sadly diagnosed with stage four adenocarcinoma, a cancer which develops in the glands that line the organs, at the age of just 22.
With what originally started as pains down her sides, after an A&E visit, blood tests and examinations revealed that there was something cancerous in Georgia’s body.
The tests results showed that Georgia was very unwell – although at the time she was okay in herself.

After undergoing six rounds of chemotherapy and experiencing a number of infections, Georgia and her parents, Cheryl and Danny Goodier, were subsequently called in and told that there was nothing more that they could possibly do – so Georgia’s treatment was stopped.
Georgia came home on the Friday and sadly passed away on the following Tuesday at just aged 23
Since her passing, Georgia’s family have fundraised for Warrington Hospital, Clatterbridge Cancer Charity and Claire’s House – who also cared for Georgia and offered bereavement support to her family.
In February last year before her diagnosis, Georgia and her friend took on a 56-mile fundraiser for Cancer Research as she knew somebody battling breast cancer.
So last month, 20 of her family and friends took on a similar challenge. Not only in her memory, but also to raise money for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity as this is a cause close to their hearts.
The challenge consisted of each person walking or running 56 miles throughout the month and the team completed their final walk on February 27 from Halliwell Jones Stadium to Walton Crematorium - where Georgia was laid to rest.
They raised an impressive £7,015 and at the end of the walk, some of the Clatterbridge team came to meet the group.
Cheryl Goodier, Georgia’s mum, said: “We would like to thank all those that took part in the challenge and Warrington Trophy Centre for engraving everyone’s medals for them free of charge.”
Georgia’s family will continue to fundraise in memory of their loving daughter who was a ‘keen athlete’ and take on challenges which she planned to – such as climbing Mount Snowdon.
The team will climb Snowdon in her memory the weekend before her birthday in July and are hoping to exceed their target of £20,000 for Georgia’s charities on her Much Loved tribute page.
