A SERIAL offender who is banned from entering Warrington town centre has been jailed again after threatening to shoot police officers.

Gary Woodall, from Latchford, was locked up on Wednesday, March 2, after breaching his criminal behaviour order – which bars him from central Warrington – for the fourth time in less than three months.

Warrington Guardian:

Warrington Magistrates Court imposed the CBO in January following ‘numerous reports of anti-social behaviour’ involving the defendant.

However, within days he had breached the court order twice and was imprisoned for eight weeks.

Woodall, of Henshall Avenue, was released from prison on Friday, February 25, but then entered the town centre the following day.

Appearing before the same court on Monday last week, he admitted breaching a criminal behaviour order and was fined £85 and detained in the courthouse for the morning.

Magistrates heard that paramedics then reported to police at around 1.15pm on Tuesday, March 1, that a drunk man appeared to be ‘covered in blood’ on Winwick Street in the town centre.

Officers attended the scene and found the defendant in a ‘heavily intoxicated’ state.

He became abusive towards the PCs, telling them to ‘f*** off’ and calling them ‘t****rs’.

Woodall – who had suffered a fall as a result of his drunken state – threatened to headbutt them, ‘shoot them’ and ‘knock them out’.

The 57-year-old was then arrested and was recalled on licence to prison to serve the remainder of his previous jail term.

David Robb, defending, told the court that his client is an alcoholic who suffers from a number of physical and mental health issues.

He added that Woodall had been visiting the town centre to go to his bank in order to access benefits, but his actions did not amount to a ‘persistent and serious breach’.

Mr Robb said: “He clearly suffers with an illness.

“He’s committed and motivated to cooperate with the probation service.

“He is becoming a bloody nuisance, but is it so much so that we want to lock him up for 12 months?

“Should the public purse go to the extent of housing this man for the next six months?

“Once he comes out, he will still be in the same situation.”

Woodall pleaded guilty to breaching a criminal behaviour order, a public order offence and drunk and disorderly behaviour and was caged for a further eight weeks.

Magistrates panel chairman Gillian Beckett also told him to pay a £128 victim surcharge.
