Dr Andrew Davies, clinical chief officer, NHS Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group answers your Covid questions
The Government removed remaining Covid-19 restrictions from Thursday but that doesn’t mean coronavirus has passed.
Some Covid measures are still required depending on where you are, or where you want to travel. To help, we’ve answered some of your questions.
Do I still have to wear a mask in healthcare settings?
Yes. There are no immediate changes to the requirements of staff, patients and visitors within healthcare settings. If you are attending your GP surgery or are visiting the hospital as a patient or visitor, you must continue to wear a mask or face covering.
The evidence shows that the consistent use of Infection, Prevention and Control measures, alongside the rollout of the vaccination programme, remains the most effective defence against the spread of Covid-19 in healthcare settings.
I’ve had my primary and booster vaccinations, but I’ve heard that I’ll need another dose, is that right?
Yes. In spring, which is around six months after the last vaccine dose, all adults aged 75 and over, residents in care homes for older people and individuals aged 12 and over who are immunosuppressed will be offered a further vaccination.
Please note that this is around six months, not necessarily exactly six months after the last dose. The NHS will be in touch when more details become available.
I’m not fully vaccinated but I want to go on holiday to a country that requires full vaccination. What can I do?
You should check the vaccination requirements of your holiday destination before booking so you can be fully vaccinated in line with their requirements by the date you travel.
The sooner you attend, the more likely it is that you will meet the requirements of the country you want to visit. Regardless of travel, it’s never too late to get vaccinated and you will be welcome at all vaccination sites, for whichever dose you need.
Please visit www.NHS.uk to book an appointment now, or search Grab a Jab on the internet to find a walk in clinic near you.
I’m fully vaccinated. Do I still need to Covid test to travel?
You will need to check the requirements of the country you’re travelling to, as they vary by country.
If you have received a full vaccination course (primary doses and booster), you do not need to Covid test upon your return to England, so long as your booster dose was administered 14 days before arriving in England.
You must be able to prove your vaccination status with your Covid Pass or Covid Vaccination Certificate. You can verify your vaccination status by completing the UK passenger locator form, which is required to be submitted 48- hours before returning to the UK.
Covid tests are still required if you are not fully vaccinated. Find out if you qualify as fully vaccinated, as well all other Covid-19 updates and requirements, by visiting www.nhs.uk.
