POTENTIALLY life-saving equipment has been donated to a junior rugby league team.

Woolston Rovers u9s Greens have received the defibrillator from Ciaran's Cause.

The charity was set up in memory of Ciaran Geddes, who died aged seven in 2012 after his heart stopped while he was playing football at Locking Stumps Community Primary School.

Rovers' new defibrillator will now be available for use during training sessions and matches in case of emergency.

It comes only weeks after another defibrillator was installed at the club's base at Monks Sports Club thanks to donations from the Torus Foundation the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund.

A club spokesman said: "Woolston Rovers u9s Greens have recently received the fantastic donation of a defibrillator from the charity Ciaran’s Cause.

"The charity was established 10 years ago in honour of Ciaran Geddes, who suddenly passed away at the age of seven years old when his heart stopped whilst he was playing on a field in Locking Stumps.

"Ciaran’s mum Marika Latham went on to set up a charity in his name in the hope that no other families go through the heartache that her family endured.

"The charity has worked with lots of local organisations and sports teams, and the u9s Greens are thrilled to receive such a wonderful and important donation for our team.

"We will be forever grateful to be gifted such an expensive piece of equipment and it will be on the sideline for every training session and all matches."
