Dynamic front rower who has circled on the verge of international selection for a while, a good season in 2008 will put Wood in pole position for a World Cup tour. Wood is a highly mobile prop who hits above his weight in the collision and has a quick-play-the-ball, and is a fiercely tough competitor in the middle of the field, who stands up and delivers when things are going against the team. England's International Player of the Season in 2005, he was Warrington Wolves' Player of the Year in 2006 after an outstandingly consistent year from the front tower that saw him top of the club's meterage chards with 3224. He had the top tackle percentage success rate for the club in 2007. A product of the Wolves Academy system, he joined from Ince St Williams ARLFC and has been a fixture in the first-grade side since he made his Super League debut as a teenager in 2000. He broke into the Great Britain squad in 2003, making his Lions debut against New Zealand "A" before injury ruled him out of the Ashes series. He made a return to the Great Britain set-up as part of the standby squad for the Tri Nations for 2006, but did not make the call for the final squad.
