A CHARITY headquartered in Warrington has spoken of its pride after scooping a prestigious award.
Making Space took home the winners' trophy after being named north west care employer of the year at the Great British Care Awards, which celebrate the best in social care.
The adult health and social care charity will now go forward to compete in the national finals later this year.
Making Space, which has its headquarters on Allen Street in the town centre, employs more than a thousand people all over the country.
Its employees support people in a number of different settings, including residential care homes, respite care, extra care facilities, supported housing, day services and support groups.
They work to help people who have a number of different support needs, from people with mental health conditions, to older people and people living with dementia or learning disabilities.
The charity also runs a number of carer support services around the country.
Alongside Making Space's win, executive director of operations Gaynor Chisnall was highly commended for her outstanding contribution to social care.
Gaynor has worked with Making Space for 31 years, rising through the ranks from her early days at a care home.
Support workers Susan O'Sullivan and Julie Birkett, who both work at north west services operated by Making Space, were also highly commended in their categories
Rachel Peacock, CEO of Making Space, said: “Every one of our employees makes a difference every single day, and because of this, we will never take them for granted.
“Making Space pays above the national living wage, offers scope for ongoing training and personal development and encourages employees to work towards promotion.
“We have an extensive package of measures in place to safeguard their wellbeing, because working in care has never been an easy choice, and over the last 18 months it has been harder than ever.
“We are very proud to gain this recognition for the care we take of our employees.”
In making their decision, judges said: “With an importance of being valued and supported by the organisation, Making Space is leading the way to really understand what keeps its staff getting up in the morning and ensuring they can make decisions, feel valued and trusted within the team.”
