A SERIOUS accident closed the westbound carriageway of the M62 for six hours.
The incident happened between junction nine at Newton Road in Winwick and junction eight the A5281 Burtonwood Road leading to Burtonwood.
The motorway was closed shortly before 7am due to a North West Motorway Police Group incident.
All traffic within the closure was released.
The road remained closed for six hours for police investigation work and reopened at 12.40pm.
Drivers are advised to follow the Solid Diamond diversion signs.
- Exit the M62 at J9.
- At M62 J9/A49 roundabout take the first exit and follow A49 (southbound).
- At A49/A574 roundabout take third exit and follow the A574 (westbound).
- At A574/Westbrook Way roundabout take thesecond exit and follow Westbrook Way (westbound).
- At Westbrook Way/Burntwood Road roundabout take the fourth exit and follow Burntwood Way (northbound).
- At Burntwood Way/M62 J8 take the first exit and re-join the M62 (westbound).
