‘Merciless’ Lloyd Edison jailed by courts for shocking rape

Lloyd Edison was branded ‘merciless’ by a judge who jailed him, as well as ‘cold and cruel’.

The 52-year-old appeared for sentence at Chester Crown Court on Friday after being convicted of a charge of rape, which occurred in Warrington.

He was convicted after a trial, meaning his victim was forced to relive the horrific ordeal.

Summing up the facts of the case, judge Patrick Thompson explained how the victim made it clear to Edison that what he wanted her to do was not something she was interested in.

In fact, she spoke of how it ‘disgusted her’.

Despite this, he pulled her onto a bed, undressed her and forced himself onto her in a ‘fairly aggressive manner’.

Judge Thompson told the court that she protested throughout the incident, which lasted for around 20 minutes, brought her to tears and made her cry out in pain.

Instead of stopping, Edison continued for ‘his own sexual gratification’, with judge Thompson branding him as ‘merciless’.

Afterwards the defendant told his victim he wanted to do it again as he had had to ‘take it from her’ rather than her giving it to him.

Sarah Badrawy, prosecuting, revealed to the court that Edison has a ‘short criminal record’, but one which includes a conviction in 2017 for disclosing private sexual photographs, for which he received a community order.

In defence of his client, Mark Kellett could offer little in mitigation, admitting the offence was ‘humiliating and degrading’ for the victim.

He did however ask the court to take into account the fact that jailing the defendant would have a detrimental impact on others close to him.

Before sentencing, judge Patrick Thompson said: “You were cold and cruel.

“You were only interested in satisfying yourself sexually.

“What you did degraded her, and it continues to affect her today.”

Edison, of Orwell Road in Liverpool, was sentenced to seven years in prison.

He must also sign the sex offender register for life and must abide by a restraining order not to contact his victim for life.
