AN event was held to unveil new banners created by school children which have been placed in a prominent place in a Penketh church.
St Joseph’s RC Church launched a banner competition as part of its ‘Bridging Schools Initiative’ which involved the pupils from local catholic schools - St Gregory’s Catholic High School, St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.
The initiative was launched in a bid to create a ‘real meaningful’ partnership with schools in the area.
The banner unveiling celebration evening was held last month and Celebrant Bishop Tom Neyland had the task of cutting the ribbon to release a silk blackout which revealed the winning entries for the competition.
Before the Mass and unveiling, the packed church enjoyed a video presentation sharing the Bridging Schools Initiative journey.
Mike Armstead, chair of St Joseph’s Parish Council, said “When the parish council reformed back in February 2020 with new council members keen to join and make a difference within our parish, from the roots of communities it was clear we had to open new links and reenergise existing with our three partner schools St Gregory’s, St Vincent’s and St Joseph’s links needed a boost to re-energise with their church.
“Support from the three schools, parents children and our pastoral community has been unbelievable in making our common goals of reconnecting a reality and hopefully strong enough to journey down life’s road together.”
