PUPILS have enjoyed a rather unusual and magical PE lesson at a Warrington primary school.
Students at Westbrook Old Hall Primary School were treated to a ‘back to school magic day’ on their return from the summer holidays.
One addition to the curriculum was Quidditch – a sport made popular in the Harry Potter series created by JK Rowling.
It involves scoring more points than the opposition by scoring through three hoops at either end before the ‘golden snitch’ is caught.
The Old Hall Road school decided to add the popular fictional sport to the PE schedule after staff received training from Enrich Education – the official education partner of Quidditch UK and the Quidditch League.
And it was thoroughly enjoyed by youngsters who took part.
Melanie McGregor, PE and sport lead teacher at the school, said: “Quidditch is a fast, physical and active sport which is growing in popularity with young people.
“The purpose for our school was to promote the sport of Quidditch as an exciting and different way for the children – and teachers who acted as the ‘golden snitch’ – to be physically active and have a lot of fun.
“The event day was thoroughly enjoyed by all the pupils, and it was rounded off with an awards ceremony in which the winners Hufflepuff were awarded the House Cup.”
