HERE are the latest official statistics on the coronavirus cases in Warrington.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, a total of 575 new cases were recorded in the town seven days leading up to September 18.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 274.6 cases among every 100,000 residents, which puts Warrington 195th in the case rates in the UK.

This is another fall is from 703 infections or 335.7 per 100,000 people in the week leading up to September 11.

Data for the most recent four days (September 19-22) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 377 local areas in the UK, 90 (24 per cent) have seen a week-on-week rise in rates, whereas Warrington is one of the 285 (76 per cent) areas that has seen a fall and two are unchanged.

Neath Port Talbot in Wales has the highest rate in the UK, with 1,252 new cases in the seven days to September 18 - the equivalent of 867.1 per 100,000 people.

Merthyr Tydfil in Wales has the second-highest rate, up from 693.4 to 801.0, with 484 new cases.

West Dunbartonshire in Scotland has the third-highest rate, down from 1,160.3 to 755.0, with 667 new cases.

England wise, Corby in Northamptonshire still has the highest rate in England (631.0) and in the north west and second in England, Allerdale tops the rate of infections with 619.4 per 100,000 people.

As of yesterday, Wednesday, there were 22 patients in Warrington Hospital – including four in intensive care.

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 528.

Since the start of the pandemic, 2,303 inpatients have been discharged from the Lovely Lane site after receiving treatment for the virus.
