A BEWSEY couple have marked 50 years of marriage this month as they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Dave and Susan Abbott met on December 18, 1970, at a football presentation night at Laport’s Social Club, Sankey Bridges.
Dave asked Susan for a dance and the rest is history – he made sure he collected her coat and waited outside the ladies for her at the end of the night.
The couple married exactly nine months later on September 18, 1971, at St Albans Church and have lived on Folly Lane, Bewsey, ever since.
Dave, 74, and Susan, 69, have two children, David and Kelly, four grandchildren and three gran-dogs.
They have made many memories together over the years, their favourite being the birth of their two children, holidays to Florida, their ‘trusty’ breaks to Blackpool, and a cruise to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
Dave says the secret to a happy marriage is: “1. Laugh every day, 2. Got to have trust in each other, 3. Never go to sleep on an argument, 4. Sit down and talk problems through and last but not least 5. A happy wife is a happy life!”
Susan says: “There always has to be compromise.”
The pair celebrated on Saturday with their close family at The Waterside.
