A PENKETH family run business which is dedicated to helping the environment has new plans to help with environmental education across Warrington schools.
EDR Landscape Management Solutions LTD, based at Riverside Trading Estate in Penketh, has always had an environmental focus – demonstrated by their International Green Apple Award.
The grounds management business, ran by father and son Brian and David Ramsbottom with help from David’s partner Carol, won the award before lockdown as they managed to cut their carbon footprint down by 90 per cent and also knocked down their non-recyclable waste down from 60 per cent to 5 per cent.
Brian and David have done a lot of worth since the business was launched in 2014 to try and reduce the waste and carbon they reduce, such as scheduling where the vans go every day to ensure the journeys are minimum.
Now the father and son have plans to help with environment awareness in schools across the town by delivering an eco-service programme.
David, 39, said: “We want to help and create eco classrooms and forest school areas so it’s not just hedge pruning and grass bashing, it’s getting the kids to look at what is going on around them and appreciate the change in seasons and that sort of thing – that’s our aim.
“It is a personalised service, one that provides more opportunities for environmental education.
“The schools can get something which provides the children with an opportunity that lets them experience different seasons and different growth - flowers for example that will attract bees and butterflies.
“A lot of children in Warrington live in properties don’t have gardens, they don’t get to see outdoor spaces other than parks and things and we’d really like to get in to the schools that don’t have them spaces already and try and speak with them and try to develop those sorts of areas – changing the way they think about their landscape management.”
The business, also has a focus on giving back to the Warrington community – and that is where David’s 13-year-old daughter, Ellie Rose, plays a role.
EDR Landscape has a charitable arm, called the Ellie Rose Initiative, which Ellie came up with to support the local community.
The Ellie Rose Initiative consists of the business reinvesting its profits back into the community.
Before the pandemic, the Penketh business sent 100 disadvantaged children to a circus and during the pandemic they worked with local supermarkets to deliver food hampers and other items.
