THE owners of a new alternative clothing store which recently opened in Warrington are delighted at the reception it has received.

The Walmsley Alternative, a rock and metal clothing and merchandise shop, has been open less than a month after welcoming its first customers at Warrington Market.

But such has been its popularity that stock has been flying off the shelves and rails, and the challenge has been restocking popular items in time.

It is the second branch along with the original store in Skelmersdale, which is where co-owner Leanne Walmsley is originally from.

“We are getting stock in on a regular, weekly basis at the minute because we are selling out that quick,” said Leanne, who co-owns the store with Simon Gould.

“We have been selling out quite quick and it has hit us by storm. We were not quite expecting it to be as popular as it has.

“To start with we had a lot of stock, but in the first week of opening I had to do multiple orders from different suppliers to restock and get fresh, new stock in.”

When asked what she believes the reason is for the initial success, Leanne says being based out of Warrington Market is a key factor.

“It is definitely down to the location – location is key, and I am absolutely loving it so far,” she continued.

“I am usually in the Skelmersdale shop and there is not much footfall, but here has the footfall.

“Everyone is lovely, there is a really nice atmosphere and because of the way the market has been done and set out, everything is really nice.”

Leanne says when she was looking at expanding the business elsewhere, Warrington grabbed her eye straight away.

This is a decision which is bearing fruit in abundance so far, with hopes that this can continue going forward.

“Warrington popped up as a place we could go and I thought we would give it a try,” she added.

“It was all trial and error, but I did not expect it to take off as it has.

“I just thought we could see how it goes and see if we want to carry on after a couple of months, and at the minute we have no reason to leave.”

The Walmsley Alternative is open Monday it Saturday between 9am and 5pm at Warrington Market, as well as the second Sunday of every month between 11am and 4pm.
