TRAINS between Warrington and Liverpool have been cancelled this morning after scaffolding collapsed over the railway near to Central Station.
Scaffolding erected over the bridge on Bewsey Street due to ongoing repair works fell in on itself overnight amid stormy conditions.
Northern Rail has confirmed that replacement buses are currently in operation due to an 'obstruction'.
Disruption is expected until around 8pm, with several cranes having moved onto the site during the day.
A spokesman said: "Due to an obstruction near to the track, trains are currently unable to call at stations between Mossley Hill and Warrington Central.
"The stations that services are unable to call at are Mossley Hill, West Allerton, Liverpool South Parkway, Hunts Cross, Halewood, Hough Green, Widnes, Warrington West and Sankey for Penketh in both directions.
"Network Rail are on site to try and rectify the problem with further updates to follow.
"However, the disruption is expected to last until this afternoon.
"Road replacement transport has been requested to operate between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington Central in both directions calling at Mossley Hill, West Allerton, Liverpool South Parkway, Hunts Cross, Halewood, Hough Green, Widnes and Warrington West.
"Journey times will be extended by approximately 30 minutes whilst travelling on rail replacement coaches.
"Ticket acceptance has been granted for Northern Rail customers to travel on MerseyRail services between Liverpool stations and Hunts Cross."
