A SUSPECT has been charged after a man was allegedly stabbed in the leg on Christmas Day.

Police were called to Beaufort Street in Sankey Bridges at around 11.30am on December 25 2020 after receiving reports of an altercation near to the junction with Samuel Street.

The victim was treated by paramedics at an address on nearby Evelyn Street after suffering injuries to his leg.

Officers arrested a man on Hughes Avenue in Orford shortly afterwards, although he was later released on conditional bail.

But Cheshire Police have now confirmed that Sean Sutton has been charged with wounding with intent and two counts of possession of a bladed article in a public place in connection with the incident.

The 47-year-old, of Hughes Avenue, is due to appear before Warrington Magistrates Court in order to face these charges tomorrow, Tuesday.

A force spokesman said: “Sean Sutton has been charged with section 18 assault – wounding – and two counts of possession of a knife in a public place.

“The charges relate to an incident that occurred on Beaufort Street.

“Sutton is currently on conditional bail and is set to appear at Warrington Magistrates Court on Tuesday, August 3.”

Road closures were implemented while police carried out enquiries at the scene.
