WINNING a gold medal at the Olympics is considered to be the biggest achievement of all.
This, therefore, IS the greatest day in Warrington's sporting history.
Pinch yourself, because that is some statement!
But there is no denying the enormity of the magical golden moment in the early hours of this morning, with two of our swimming aces competing in the same team to wipe the floor with the rest of the world's best in the Tokyo Olympics.
However, Kathleen Dawson and James Guy are not only the toast of our town after the stunning success in the mixed 4x100m medley relay at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.
Along with their teammates Adam Peaty and Anna Hopkin, they are now national treasures too as they put the icing on the cake to what has been a fantastic championships in the pool for an inspired, and inspiring, Team GB swimming squad.

Today we can celebrate two amazing athletes who have reached the pinnacle of their Warrington childhood dreams, and the part the town has played in helping them get there.
The schools they attended, the support of family and coaches, the teammates they have had, the friends they have made, the paths they have taken – all influential and contributory factors in shaping them into the competitors and characters they have become.
To do what they have done is incredible because we have been living through some very dark times. Life has been difficult for everyone, including elite athletes who have had to adapt, respond and prosper through national lockdowns and closed training facilities for large chunks of the past 17 months.
For two of our own to have been able to stay strong, jump whatever obstacles have been put in their way and complete the ultimate mission by becoming Olympic champions is so uplifting.

And for anyone still unsure about this being the greatest sporting day in the town's history?
Warrington had waited 125 years for an Olympics gold medal, and thanks to today's magnificent efforts we can all beam at the images of three in four days – thanks to Guy also notching his first in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay on Wednesday.
There's no doubt about it, we're living in extraordinary times alongside some extraordinary people.
Thank you both, thank you Tokyo, and in the coming weeks the powers that be in Warrington should be considering permanent recognition of our town's Super Saturday thanks to two sensational swimmers. But that's for another day. Today raise your glass to Dawson and Guy.
