CONSTRUCTION work on a development of 145 new homes has begun.
Castle Green Homes was granted detailed planning permission for the scheme at Omega South by Warrington Borough Council last month.
And builders have now moved onto the 12-acre site, which was formerly part of RAF Burtonwood.
The 15 two-bedroom, 81 three-bedroom and 49 four-bedroom houses – including 19 affordable units – will be released for sale later this month.
Work on the Willows Field project, which also features an open public space and a play area, will take around two-and-a-half years to complete.
Outline planning permission had previously been approved by WBC in June 2016 as part of proposals for a total of 1,100 houses to be built in the area.
Castle Green, which bought out Macbryde Homes late last year, is planning to open a new office at Preston Brook.
Chief executive Gwyn Jones said: “It’s a major milestone to finally break ground at this landmark site.
“Whilst it’s not our first scheme in Cheshire – we’ve previously built in Ellesmere Port, Beeston and Neston as Macbryde – the acquisition of a sizeable parcel of land at Omega signals the start of our major expansion in the north west of England.
“We’ve already had huge interest from potential buyers at Willow Fields, and we’re looking forward to playing our part in the regeneration of this part of the old Burtonwood Airbase.”
