EVERY month, the Warrington Guardian takes a look back at some of the most shocking and bizarre crimes reported to police in the town over the past few weeks.

Here are five such incidents from Warrington during June:

  • Mobility scooter user robbed

One of the most upsetting crimes last month came on the afternoon of Friday, June 4, when a mobility scooter user was robbed at knifepoint in a park.

The 56-year-old man was attacked near to the duck pond in Orford Park at around 4.15pm.

Two robbers in dark clothing stole a quantity of cash from the victim before fleeing in the direction of Orford Green.

  • Takeaway staff attacked

Staff at a takeaway were reportedly attacked by a customer who was asked to wear a face mask.

The incident erupted at Restaurant 2 Takeaway in Padgate shortly after 9.30pm on Friday, June 18.

A female employee at the Chinese eatery was allegedly kicked to the floor while the chef was punched in the face.

  • 14-year-old assaulted with weapon

Two men were arrested after a 14-year-old boy was assaulted with a ‘blunt weapon’.

The teen was attacked with what was believed to be a baseball bat in Oakwood Play Area, off Admirals Road in Birchwood, at around 7.30pm on Sunday, June 20.

Rio Fennel, of Payne Close in Hood Manor, has since been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place – and the 20-year-old has been released on bail ahead of an appearance before Warrington Magistrates Court later this month.

Another 20-year-old suspect who was detained on suspicion of the same offence and assault has been released under investigation by Cheshire Police.

The teenager suffered an injury to his leg as a result of the incident and was taken to Warrington Hospital for treatment.

  • Teen robbed at knifepoint

Another teen was the victim of a knifepoint robbery on the evening of Saturday, June 19.

The 16-year-old was riding his bicycle along Longshaw Street, near to Dallam Playing Fields, at around 6.15pm when he was approached by a man who was reportedly wearing a balaclava.

He is said to have brandished the weapon and stolen the mountain bike before cycling away.

Cheshire Police say the attacker was white, aged in his 20s and of a large build with dark hair over his brown eyes and a broken nose and was wearing a grey tracksuit with the hood up.

  • The Batman of Birchwood

A pseudo-superhero dressed as Batman was told off by police after reportedly hiding in bushes and jumping out at passers-by.

The caped crusader was spotted ‘acting suspiciously’ in the Birchwood area, including Risley Moss and Birchwood Forest Park, on Saturday, June 19.

Cheshire Police ‘spoke to and gave words of advice’ to the wannabe Batman.

A force spokesman said: “As the police, we respond to a wide variety of incidents and no two days are the same.

“However, it's not often that we receive reports of Batman loitering in Birchwood.

“Batman has been spoken to and given words of advice.

“No other DC characters are believed to be involved.”
