FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning for residents to be careful when using fire pits over the coming weeks and months.
This comes after an incident in Fearnhead yesterday, Wednesday, which saw flames spread to a garden fence.
The crew from Birchwood Fire Station rushed to Valiant Close at around 12.50pm after receiving reports that the fence was ‘well alight’.
On arrival, they discovered that the fire had spread from a pit on the patio and used a hose reel to put out the flames.
In a tweet following the call-out, Birchwood Fire Station said: “Crews attended a garden fence fire today that had spread from an unattended fire pit.
“Crews from Cheshire have attended a number of garden fires lately that damaged property.
“Please take extra care with fire pits and do not leave any fire in your garden unattended.”
This fire follows a similar incident in Woolston which shut a major road for six hours on Tuesday.
On that occasion, six fire engines were dispatched to Manchester Road to tackle a garage fire.
The busy route was shut in both directions to allow firefighters access to extinguish the flames.
