A RECENT tribute to former Warrington Wolves centre Ron Herbert has led to this schoolboys picture being submitted to the Guardian
Herbert was a member of this Warrington Schoolboys team who won the Lancashire Schools trophy in 1947-48.
Herbert and Mather, the boy next to him in the photo, both played for Lancashire Schools.
The boy named Orange was Joe Orange.
It would be helpful for documenting purposes to get all the first names of the boys in the picture and to find out if any of the players are still with us.
Historian Neil Ormston has calculated that when Herbert made his Wire debut aged 18 years and nine days he was the youngest to play for Warrington at that point.
He lost his record to Laurie Gilfedder eight months later.
Herbert had made his first appearance for Warrington's A team on September 17, 1949, when he was still only 16.
