EVERY month, the Warrington Guardian takes a look back at some of the most shocking and bizarre crimes reported to police in the town over the past few weeks.
Here are six such incidents from Warrington during September:
Robber armed with acid raids store
A robber armed with a knife and a ‘canister of acid’ raid the McColl’s on Admiral Road in Birchwood on the evening of Sunday, September 13.
The convenience store was targeted by an unknown offender at around 8.30pm.
He demanded money and attempted to access the till, but was stopped by a brave member of staff – who suffered minor injuries to his hand.
Police say the suspect was white, between 5ft7 and 5ft10 and of average build and was wearing a black face mask, a dark hoodie, dark trousers and light-coloured trainers.
Trio charged over £200,000 theft
Three suspected thieves have been charged after goods worth £200,000 were stolen from supermarkets across the UK.
Asda in Birchwood Shopping Centre was among the stores targeted during the spates of thefts between March this year and Thursday, September 3.
Other incidents occurred across Cheshire, Manchester, Lancashire, Wales, Birmingham, West Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Scotland.
Marius Meiosu, Florin Costea and Gabriel Mocanu were all arrested on Thursday, September 10, after officers raided a house in Oldham.
The trio – aged 25, 51 and 36 respectively and of Oldham – have since been charged with conspiracy to steal from a shop.
Charity shop burglary
Burglars stole cash after breaking into St Rocco’s Hospice’s charity furniture shop on Mersey Street in the town centre.
The store was targeted at some point between 5pm on Saturday, September 12, and 9am on Monday, September 14.
Offenders smashed a window in order to gain entry before taking money from the premises.
St Rocco’s says that the burglars ‘didn’t get away with much’ and thanked volunteers and staff who worked to reopen the shop.
Shop worker threatened with ‘sharp instrument’
An employee at the Co-op on Chapel Lane in Burtonwood was threatened with a ‘sharp instrument’ during a robbery.
The store was targeted at around 4.30pm on Thursday, September 17, when the female shop worker challenged a man who attempted to leave the convenience store without paying.
He brandished the weapon before fleeing with the stolen goods in the direction of the Chapel House pub.
This incident is believed to be linked to another similar robbery at a Co-op store in the Wigan area three days later.
Police helicopter called after man seen with weapon
The police helicopter was called out shortly after 10.30pm on Sunday, September 20, over reports of a man being armed with a knife.
Officers were called to Grammar School Road in Latchford, with support from the National Police Air Service.
But there was no trace of the man, despite a ‘thorough search of the area’.
Robbers armed with knife and CS gas
The Post Office on Longshaw Street in Dallam was raided by two robbers at around 8am on Wednesday, September 2.
Police say the pair were armed with a knife and CS gas and made off with a quantity of cash before fleeing on foot in the direction of Sankey Valley Park.
Images of two men in hi-vis jackets were issued by Cheshire Police in connection with the robbery.
