EVERY month, the Warrington Guardian takes a look back at some of the most shocking and bizarre crimes reported to police in the town over the past few weeks.
Here are seven such incidents from Warrington during August:
Spate of flashers reported
Two separate reports of flashers were received by police in the first half of the month.
The first incidents occurred in Birchwood Walled Garden over the weekend of August 1 and 2, with a man having exposed himself to children in the park at around 5.15pm on the Saturday.
A second attack occurred shortly after 3pm on the Sunday, when the pervert hid in bushes before flashing a group of young kids who ran away and alerted police.
Around a week later at roughly 4pm on Tuesday, August 11, a man was seen walking along Stockport Road in Grappenhall while performing a sex act on himself.
These incidents follow another report of a naked man being spotted performing a sex act in bushes near to Burtonwood Community Primary School towards the end of July.
Eight-year-old boy robbed in park
An eight-year-old boy was reportedly robbed of his bike as he played in a park.
The child allegedly had his BMX snatched out of his hands in Dakota Park in Chapelford at around 3.15pm on Tuesday, August 18.
Police say the suspect was dressed in black clothing with his hood up, and had long, fair hair.
Cannabis sweets circulating
Police have issued a warning over sweets containing cannabis which are circulating in Warrington.
Stoner Patch are watermelon flavoured confectionary infused with the class B drug, and are known to be ‘doing the rounds’ amongst youths in the town.
The sweets appear to mimic the popular South Patch Kids brand.
Pet cat ‘shot dead’
A cat’s owners have been left ‘devastated’ after their pet was apparently shot dead in the street.
One-year-old Binxy’s body was discovered at the junction of Stainmore Close, Darnaway Close and Woolmer Close in Gorse Govert on Sunday, August 16.
She had suffered an injury to her left-hand side which broke a rib and punctured her lung.
It is not clear whether this was a result of blunt force trauma caused by a kick, or whether she was shot – although pellets from a BB gun were found nearby.
The RSPCA is investigating the incident.
Large cannabis farm raided
Police raided a large cannabis farm at a house in Bewsey on Thursday, August 20.
Around 170 plants of the class B drug were seized when officers executed a search warrant at the property.
No arrests were made, with nobody present at the address at the time.
Knife found next to ball pit
A dad was left shocked after he found a kitchen knife next to a ball pit at a popular children’s attraction.
The blade was discovered at Apple Jacks Adventure Farm in Appleton Thorn on the morning of Sunday, August 23.
Apple Jacks says it is investigating the matter, which was reported to Cheshire Police.
