IT seems the bad blood between The Wire and Wigan Warriors is real.
Both clubs have issued a statement cancelling a planned joint press conference previewing Thursday’s Super League opener between the two sides at the DW Stadium “in lieu of the current climate between the two organisations.”
Players and coaches from both sides were due to speak to the media tomorrow but that will now no longer take place.
The statement read: “With recent comments made by senior members of both Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors management teams both clubs have agreed to cancel the customary joint press conference in lieu of the current climate between the two organisations.”
Wire chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick stoked the fires by claiming new signing Anthony Gelling turned down a return to Wigan in favour of a move to The Halliwell Jones Stadium – something Warriors owner Ian Lenegan said had “no truth” to it.
The sides have traded social media barbs over the past year and the first clash between the two last year was marketed as “Bad Blood.”
