LABOUR'S Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols is undecided over who should replace Jeremy Corbyn as party leader but believes it should be a woman.

However, the politician said she has been ‘particularly impressed’ by candidates Lisa Nandy and Rebecca Long-Bailey so far.

She added: “I’ve not made my decision regarding Labour leader yet – but I’m really pleased with the quality of the candidates and hope we can conduct the contest in a comradely way that gives them all the best opportunity to put their vision for the party’s future across.”

The other candidates bidding to secure the top job and take over from Mr Corbyn are Sir Keir Starmer, Jess Phillips, Emily Thornberry and Clive Lewis.

While the candidates in the race to succeed Tom Watson as deputy are Rosena Allin-Khan, Angela Rayner, Richard Burgon, Dawn Butler, Khalid Mahmood and Ian Murray.

Ms Nichols has thrown her support behind Ms Rayner.

She hailed the Ashton-under-Lyne MP’s ‘powerful’ speech as she launched her campaign for the senior position.

In a tweet, Ms Nichols said: “I’m proud to be part of a broad church of Labour MPs backing Angela – we can’t heal the divides in our country without healing divides in our party.”
