THE landlord of the Lower Angel pub in the town centre is helping to spread Christmas cheer with a charitable display.

Andrew Wharf has chosen to raise funds for Warrington Mencap.

Customers can donate to purchase a pompom, which have all been handmade by Andrew himself, to pin on a huge Father Christmas creating his familiar white beard.

Donations have already surpassed £500 thanks to the generous customers at the Lower Angel on Buttermarket Street.

Andrew is well known for his eye-catching seasonal displays and this year is no exception with every inch of the pub covered in fairy lights, handmade Nutcracker soldiers and there’s even a grumpy, green Grinch corner for anyone not quite in the festive spirit yet.

Warrington Mencap work with adults with learning disabilities in the area supporting them to lead independent and meaningful lives.

Gill Selkirk, manager at Warrington Mencap said: “It’s such an honour to be picked by Andrew and his team as this year’s Lower Angel Charity when there are so many worthy charities within our town.

"The effort Andrew puts into his fundraising is second to none and we feel very lucky to benefit from both his and his customers generosity.

"The donation will go direct to the individuals we work with and will be a wonderful and welcome boost for all.”
